One AE chart covers every women's top — tees, camis, hoodies, sweatshirts, shirts, sweaters and the AE77 premium line (identical on nine product pages) — sized by your bust at the fullest point. Letters carry AE's number pairs (XS is 0–2, M is 8–10, up to XXL at 20–22), and sizes leave real gaps: a bust in one rounds up, with the smaller size offered as the closer cut.
AE's size-guide page prints an older tops table that disagrees with its product pages (different busts, and XXL listed as an 18) — we use the chart AE shows at the buy moment. A few knit styles sell dual sizes like X-Small/Small: size by the smaller letter and go up if you're between.

AE publishes the body waist and hips behind every numbered size — and jeans, pants, joggers, shorts, skirts and skorts all print this same chart. Regular and Curvy are cuts of the same numbers, AE's own rule: Curvy is designed for hips about 13″ fuller than the waist (a half inch snugger waist, 3″ fuller hip at every size), so your hip decides the cut.
Lengths (X-Short through X-Long) are sold with the size, and each fit family cuts them differently — a Baggy Regular is a 30″ inseam, a cargo Regular about 31.5″ — so match the product's stated inseam to your inside leg; the size number doesn't change.
AE77 premium bottoms sell European sizes on these same measurements — a 27 is a US 4, printed side by side on those product pages.

AE's letter-sized bottoms — sweatpants, joggers and knit shorts — are the brand's own grouping of its numbered sizes (an M spans the 8–10 bodies), sized by body waist with hip as a check, so this tab and the Pants tab always agree.
Many knit styles sell Short and Long letters (an M Short) — AE cuts each fit family's lengths differently, so match the product's stated inseam; your letter doesn't change. Letters leave real gaps: a waist in one rounds up, with the smaller letter as the closer cut.

How we sized thissized by bust

AE publishes bust, waist and hips for every numbered dress size — bust decides, waist and hip confirm. Tall keeps these same measurements and only adds length (0.75″ in the bodice, 1.75″ overall), so your size doesn't change.
AE's dress chart also prints a Petite column an inch slimmer throughout, but no AE dress is sold in Petite — there's no Petite size to choose — so we size every dress from the standard column.
One correction: AE's dress chart prints the same hip (42.5″) for both the 14 and the 16 — its own size-guide page and the chart's ladder both say 44″ at the 16, so we show 44″.
Rompers and jumpsuits size here too. Skirts don't — AE prints its bottoms chart on skirt pages, so use the Pants or Joggers tab for skirts and skorts. Swim is bra-sized (each letter maps to band-and-cup sizes, printed on every swim product) — measurements we don't collect, so use the product's own guide there.
